Lullaby A Watersong Novel Amanda Hocking Books

I really enjoyed this sequel to Wake. This book picks up right where we left off. Gemma has gone with the sirens, while Harper, Alex, and Daniel are left to face with the aftermath and finding Gemma. While most authors can't effectively do third person POV with alternating perspectives, Amanda Hocking handles it extremely well, and the story flows very nicely. There was never a time where I was confused or bored with the story. What I find even more amazing is that Ms. Hocking has created each character with a unique voice and personality. Sometimes when an author writes alternating POV's, the voices sound the same, but that is not the case in this book.

In Wake, I never felt that true connection to Harper, Alex, or Daniel, but that completely disappeared in this novel. Harper and Alex work extremely hard to find Gemma, and it was refreshing to see the characters develop into strong leads. There are a lot of tense moments in this novel, and the characters handle themselves in the way you would expect. None of the characters are these amazing, heroic people. They are ordinary characters faced with an unbelievable task, and that is what makes them extraordinary. My one complaint...there wasn't nearly enough Daniel. Even though Daniel wasn't very prominent in the last book either, I still fell in love with him. However, he isn't in this book nearly as much as he should in my opinion. Nevertheless, the scenes he is in, well let's just say they don't disappoint. He is even sweeter and more charming, if that's even possible. One of the other stand out characters...Marcy. I love this girl! In Wake, I barely registered her, but boy does she impress in this book. I particularly loved the scene where she and Harper (mainly Marcy) were discussing the T. Rex. Here's a taste...

"'My point is that nothing is unstoppable, and the T. rex wasn't as great as he thought he was. I mean, what were those little arms for?' Marcy pulled her arms back into her sleeves, so her hands made short imitation T. rex arms, and she wiggled them back and forth. 'What an idiot.'"

This just had me laughing hysterically (and she kinda has a point too).

However, this is ultimately Gemma's story, and Gemma's character grows so much in this book. Gemma is facing a constant struggle to give in to her siren nature, but she also becomes that much stronger. I loved every time she stood up to Penn, and her bonding with Thea.

The stand out part of this novel though lies in the mythology that Amanda Hocking has incorporated. I'm a sucker for any type of mythology, and Ms. Hocking just sucked me into the story with more about the siren curse and other such things.

While I really enjoyed reading this novel, there was still something missing to me. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just something not there. I can't wait to read the next in the series, Tidal because I love this series, and Amanda Hocking is one of my favorite authors. There are still a lot of questions that need to be answered, and I look forward to what Ms. Hocking has in store for us.

Lullaby A Watersong Novel Amanda Hocking Books Reviews

It was slow. Half of the book, Harper and Alex were trying to find Gemma, only to come to a dead end. I liked that Gemma was still standing strong for what she believed in and I really admired her for not giving in right away. Penn and Lexi lived to annoy me, but I understand Thea very well. I liked that she was helping Gemma and everything. It totally surprised me when Lexi killed Sawyer, though. Really? I thought he was gonna get away for a second there. The ending...It broke my heart, but that just gives me another thing to admire Gemma for. I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't think it was so slow. But it was still good<3
Lullaby is the second book in the watersong series. It is about to sisters, Gemma and Harper that lived perfectly normal life until the beautiful Penn and her friends show up in town and turned out to be sirens. Now Gemma is one of the sirens and has to stay with them against her own will. Torn between her love ones and the watersong her powers continue to grow as she starts to have strange hunger for something that she can't point out.
Mean while Harper is determined to find her sister and bring her back home no matter what it takes. Fortunately she is not alone in that difficult task but has help f.x from Daniel who seams immune to the sirens powers.
Can Harper save Gemma or will Gemma end up cruel and ruthless like the other sirens?
To find out you will have to read the book.
I thought Lullaby was a good read, both exciting and fun. It is nice how Amanda Hocking takes you to an dark, magical world where you can just see the characters come to life.
I really enjoyed "Wake" and purchased "Lullaby" for my kindle right away. The book takes up where the first left off. Gemma leaves with the three sirens who created her in an effort to keep her sister Harper and her boyfriend Alex safe. The book alternates different character's perspectives and for the most part this worked. I enjoyed reading about how Alex, Harper and Daniel tried to find and save Gemma. They just refused to give up on her. So did Gemma's dad. His anguish literally leaps off the pages. Also heartbreaking were the scenes in the hospital/home with Gemma's mom. She isn't all their mentally but she knows something has happened to her daughter.

Meanwhile Gemma is living in a big, fancy house by the water. She is fighting what she is becoming. Their were several interesting altercations between Gemma and the other siren's, especially evil Penn. But I have to say that several SHOCKING things happen in this book. I just didn't think Hocking would take Gemma to the places she is forced to go in this book. How will Gemma move forward from what she has become? What she has done? So I give kudos to Hocking for keeping the suprises coming.

I love Daniel and every scene with him is entertaining. I feel like he could just leap from the page and be real. However the flip side is that Alex isn't nearly as three dimensional. I'd like to see his personality develop more. He was better written in "Wake". Harper is realistic but she just isn't as likeable as Gemma. Harper is very focused and driven by her need to protect and care for her father and sister. It blinds her to all the other things she could have in life if she let herself (hm...Daniel?).

These pages flew by and the book took almost no time to read and enjoy. My complaint is that the conflict resolution was far to simple. Talking it out??? That is the big climax? No, thanks. I hated that about "Breaking Dawn" as well and it was no more satisfying in this novel. I do have high hopes for the remaining two books. As of right now, I will still be interested enough to pre-order them as well.
